About Level 3 Award (500/6771/0)

Technicians and apprentice technicians working with Mobile Air Conditioning (MAC) systems refrigerant gases as installed in road vehicles.

Duration of the course: Pre – training reading + 1 day training including assessment
The Award is made up of one unit that addresses the issues of the UK and EU F-gas regulations relating to mobile air conditioning. (Commission Regulation EC 842/2006 and Annex to Commission Regulation EC 307/2008).

The selection criteria for entry will reflect each applicant’s training and experience in working with mobile air conditioning systems. Individuals should already have a basic knowledge of:

  • The operation of air conditioning systems containing fluorinated greenhouse gases in automotive refrigerated cargo systems.

Learners demonstrate knowledge and ability in mobile air conditioning refrigerant gas handling by completing the skills assessment.

The programme includes study and sessions addressing:

⦁ pre-training reading.
⦁ how a passenger vehicle air conditioning refrigeration system works and functions.
⦁ explanation of the fluorinated gases used in MAC refrigeration systems.
⦁ the harm refrigerant gases can inflict on the environment.
⦁ explanation of the provisions of regulation EC842/2006, and Directive 2006/40/EC.
⦁ the safe handling of MAC servicing equipment and the recovery and re-charging of MAC system refrigerant gases.

Following the training sessions candidates will be invited to take the assessment and test to qualify for their Level 3 Award in MAC Refrigerant gas Handling (EC842-2006), Qualification 500/6771/0.

Successful candidates will receive a certificate, issued by the awarding body, confirming their demonstrated ability to comply with Regulation (EU) F-gas legislation 517/2014 and Regulation EC842/2006.
